Volnay is another wine village on the Cote de Beaune that specializes in producing red wine. It has a unique and obvious style. Just the opposite of its neighbor, Pommard. Volnay shows the most elegant and meticulous side of Pinot Noir. Volnay is smaller than Pommard, with only 220 hectares of vineyards, and there is no Grand Cru. A total of 29 Premier Crus occupy more than half of the area. Volnay has many high-quality wineries, such as Macquis d'Angerville, Pousse d'Or, Domaine de Montille and Michel Lafarge.

Perched on the hill of Chaignot high on the Côte de Beaune, Volnay occupies narrow and steep slopes that seem to offer more space for the vines. The orientation of the hills themselves is slightly different from the general orientation of France, so the vines face southeast rather than east. These vineyards have been valued and developed hundreds of years ago. Because the mountain gradually turns to the southeast, almost all the vineyards in Volnay are on sunny slopes. Coupled with a relatively high altitude, and a larger proportion of stones and limestone, its products are also more delicate.

Acclaimed for its delicious delicacy and aroma, Volnay has long been considered Burgundy's most feminine wine. Although some of its terroir makes it a bit masculine, like a kissable lipstick print. The color varies from bright ruby to light garnet. It has aromas of violets, gooseberry, currants, cherries as well as aged spices, game and cooked prune. A wine with immediate appeal, a bit of natural precocity means it can be fully opened and drinkable relatively young. The first sensation is fresh and the finish is warm. Drinking this wine is like biting into fresh fruit with a pleasant aroma.
