Sauternes is located on the south of the Gronne. It is one of the well-known sweet white wine regions of Bordeaux. The area is 1,800 hectares which produces 4.5 million bottles. This producing area is known as the world's three largest botrytis wine producing areas along with Tokaji in Hungary and Rheingau in Germany. Among them, Sauternes includes five villages: Sauternes, Bommes, Barsac, Fargues, Preignac. The main grape varieties used are Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.

The soil types of Sauternes include gravel, clay limestone.With good drainage and excellent weather conditions for the production of noble rot bacteria. There are very few production areas in the world that can meet such requirements in all aspects, but Sauternes can.

Sauternes wines have unique aromas of honey, dried pineapple and nuts.The palate is rich in apricots and honey, mixed with a little nutty, but balanced by mineral saltiness and refreshing acidity. It thick and firm when young, rich and mellow when mature, every taste is a pleasant surprise to the palate.

Sauternes and Barsac now have a total of 27 classified wineries, divided into three categories: 1 Premier cru, 11 First Growth and 15 Second Growth. It is worth mentioning that Château d'Yquem is the only Grand Cru in this classification.
