Pauillac is in Haut Medoc on the left bank of Bordeaux. It is one of the four famous wine-producing villages in Medoc, south of Saint-Estephe and north of Saint-Julian. It has 1,100 hectares of vineyards, accounting for about 7.5% of the total area of Medoc vineyards. Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot.

There are gentle slopes throughout Pauillac, with elevations ranging from 0-29 meters. In general, the northern part of the vineyards is at higher elevations and contain thicker gravel layers with mostly sand, marl and limestone underlying soils, while in the south the gravel is coarser and contains more clay on the surface. Each winery's vineyards tend to be on separate slopes, gravel domes or mesas, giving each vineyard its own and distinctive terroir. As its proximity to the river, it has a slightly warmer microclimate and is relatively safe in the event of frost, resulting in high-quality grapes and good storage for aged wines.

Pauillac only produces red wine. Among the six legal Bordeaux red grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon is the most important one in Pauillac and is the king of the producing area. Its fruit is small, and tannin is firm, which brings outstanding aging to the wine. annual potential. Made with Merlot in a classic Bordeaux blend, with small amounts of abernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

Pauillac's most well-known wineries are the three giants Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Latour, and Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Likewise, other classified growths in Pauillac are worthy of scrutiny, such as Ch. Pichon-Baron and Ch. Pichon-Lalande, Ch. Duhart-Milon. In Pauillac, the wines of any of the 12 First Growths are outstanding, but Ch. Pontet-Canet stands out, and its wines are now even on par with the Second Growths. Speaking of middle-class wineries, although Ch. Pibran is the only one in Pauillac, it is a boutique.
