Morey-Saint-Denis(MSD) is bordered by the village of Gevrey-Chambertin to the north and the adjacent village of Chambolle-Musigny to the south. It is a sub-region within the Cote de Nuits. The history of viticulture can be traced back to the 10th century AD. Many of the vineyards here have "Clos" in their names, which means enclosed and closed in French. Because monks are the earliest pioneers of vineyards, they are constantly looking for the best vineyards to make the best wines, and then enclose the best vineyards with stone walls, which not only plans the boundaries of the vineyards, but also protects them. In 1927, MSD, formerly known as the village of Morey, finally added the name of Clos St Denis to the name of the village.
MSD is dominated by limestone and clay limestone, the upper slope is white Bartonian pebble lime soil, and the bottom of the slope is the Barouian lime soil rich in fossils, the vineyards are mostly east-facing, about 220 to 270 meters above sea level.
MSD red wines are dominated by Pinot Noir. Many people think that its wine style is between strong and elegant. Red wines produced by MSD are usually bright ruby red, sometimes showing a Relatively dark brick red, the aroma of the wine is relatively mature, showing the aroma of black fruit, of course, there will also be red fruit, such as cherries, raspberries, etc., and some wines will also show raspberries, violets, licorice or fruit. The aroma of brandy, MSD after aging is prone to the aroma of game, leather, moss and even truffle. The flavor is persistent and structured.
MSD was certified as AOC in 1936. MSD has 106.61 hectares of red wine vineyards, including 38.22 hectares of Premier Cru. Morey-Saint-Denis has 4 Grands Crus, which are Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos de Lambrays and Clos de Tart from north to south.
