Macon is located on the banks of the Saone River, extending from Sennecey le Grand in the north to the south for 50 kilometers, 15 kilometers wide, and the end is connected to the Beaujolais appellation area, which is actually at the foot of a central plateau. The hills of Mâconnais extend for about 40 kilometers from the Côte Chalonnaise to the rock of Solutré, bordered on one side by the Saône and Grosne rivers. The vines were first planted in the Gallo-Roman period and cultivated in the Middle Ages by the powerful monasteries of Turnus and Cluny. The history of AOC Mâcon dates back to 1937.

About 15 million years ago, the Cenozoic rifted basin west of Macon had relative dislocations on both sides of the fault surface, resulting in the topography of several wavy monoclinic hills and valleys in Macon today. The vineyards are distributed in the foothills separated by layers of parallel faults. This is the part where the hillside meets the surrounding flat land, about 400 meters above sea level. The upper end is composed of Balouian limestone and Jurassic marl, and the marine sedimentary rocks at the foot of the mountain alternately form calcareous clay soil with good drainage performance.

White wine color is platinum or golden yellow or straw color, with soft silver or green luster. Smells of white roses, acacia, honeysuckle, ferns, verbena, lemon grass and citrus fruits (grapefruit, orange). In the mouth, finish by adding nuances of fir, papaya and fennel. Taste varies from village to village and country of origin. These wines are fresh and sweet, dry and fruity. They have sufficient acidity and good concentration to ensure their quality. The wine is full and round.

Chardonnay, grown in Mâcon and 11 neighbouring communes, enjoys the appellation MACON. The title of the village of MACON consists of 26 named gardens, which are grouped together. Among the seven AOPs, there are two district-level names Macon and Macon Villages: five village-level names Pouilly-Fuisse, Saint-Veran, Pouilly-Loche, Pouilly-Vinzelles, and Vire Clesse. Familiar wineries are: Domanie La Soufrandiere, Domaine Anne Claude Leflaive, Domaine Jacques Saumaize and Domaine des vignes du Maynes.
