Produced in the Piedmont region, it is crowned as a top wine producing area with Barolo. The two places are quite similar in soil, topography, geology, varieties and wine styles. In 1981, Barbaresco became the earliest recognized DOCG-level legal production area in Italy. The vineyard area of the Barbaresco AOC is about 500 hectares, and it is one of the DOCG production areas with the smallest output in Italy, with an average annual output of about 2 million bottles.
The Langhe production area is close to the banks of the Tanaro River. It has a continental climate and continuous hills, most of which are 200-400 meters above sea level. The terrain is lower than Barolo. The soil is mainly sandy soil and marl soil from the Tortoniano Toltonian period. Part of the soil is grayish blue, rich in calcium, more fertile than the Barolo area, and the soil is looser. The hills form the local special terroir.
Nebbiolo is a famous red grape variety used to make some of Italy's long-aged, delicate wines. This variety is native to the Piedmont region in northwestern Italy and is the most unique and outstanding grape variety in this region.
Barbaresco wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo, which has high acidity and thick tannins, so it is very suitable for brewing aged wines, up to 10-15 years old. After aging in Barbaresco, Nebbiolo will become quite delicate and soft, with cherry and rose aromas, anise spices, leather, special tar, and complex and changeable flavors.
